The events were confirmed by Sehithwa Police Station Commander, Nshaki Mabophiwa, in an interview with Mmegi Online. He stated that the victim had visited his aunt at the cattlepost in Tswelenyane where he found the gun and killed himself. 'On January 12, the man found no one at the cattlepost and it is said his aunt was in Namibia at the time,' Mabophiwa explained.

'He managed to get inside the house and stumbled upon a 3006 rifle which he used to shoot himself. It was reported that the gun belongs to his aunt,' he added. Another suicide incident occurred at Makakung cattlepost on January 14 and it involved a 61-year-old man. Mabophiwa said the man left his family behind early in the morning. 'The man woke up at 5am and gave his phone to a 77-year-old man saying to him that he should expect a call as he was going to a funeral,' the station commander said. About 30 minutes after the man left, Mabophiwa disclosed that he saw the man hanging from a tree near their home.

'The 77-year old man woke up to prepare porridge and tea, but the kids pointed him to the direction of the deceased who was hanging from a tree,' he disclosed. Meanwhile, Mabophiwa said the two deceased did not leave any notes behind to explain their decisions to end their lives. He, however, took the chance to advise men to always seek help and refrain from taking their lives as no good comes from it.
