In an interview with Mmegi Online this week, IEC spokesperson Osupile Maroba said this year's general election was sure to proceed as planned even if the current numbers were the last until deadline day.

'The chance to register is now, the election will not stop because only 400,000 + people have registered by deadline day. The IEC is not intending to extend voter registration deadline beyond February 3,' said an adamant Maroba, although admitting that the current numbers of registered voters are low.

Maroba appealed to other stakeholders such as community leaders, civil society organisations and the media to assist in spreading the voter registration message saying it is everyone's responsibility to rally the people.
