In a press statement Gaone Chepete, Childline Botswana spokesperson revealed that they are worried about the potential long-term harm that could be inflicted on violence child survivors as a result of such exposure. Chepete added that disclosing child violence survivors’ identity often subjects them to stigma in their everyday lives consequently compromising their healing and recovery processes.

'We have noted that this is likely not out of malicious intent, but commitment to exposing evil visited on our children daily,' the statement further read. Chepete also disclosed that they have observed that there are advocates for rape and other forms of violence on social media who will exploit any opportunity to assign blame and shame to those who have suffered abuse.
