This was revealed during his bail application hearing at the High Court. During the hearing, a statement was read out, reportedly written by Selolwane's ex lover. The statement detailed an encounter where a man claiming to be from the Broadhurst police approached the ex-lover, asking for P10, 000 to bribe the Magistrate in order to secure Selolwane's release from prison. 'A man came to my house and told me he was sent by the Broadhurst Police so I help them get Selolwane out of prison. I was asked to send P10,000 to the Magistrate to get Selolwane out,' reads the statement by the ex lover. Selolwane's lawyer, Jonas Obonye, denied the allegations, stating that they were false and without any basis in truth. 'This statement is not true, if it was, this matter could have been taken seriously; this is just a way to get my client locked up in prison,' said Jonas.

Further adding to the gravity of the situation, Broadhurst Police Station Commander, Obusitswe Lokae, disclosed that Selolwane had also allegedly attempted to compensate the victim's mother and her friend to stop them from reporting him. 'On the night of his arrest, it is alleged that Selolwane tried to give the mother of the victim and her friend P4000 as a way to bribe them so they don't reveal what he allegedly did,' said Lokae.
