Showdown looms over Golden Grand Prix

The brainchild behind the event, Glody Dube, is reportedly preparing to pursue the legal route as it has emerged that the government is on the verge of assuming full control of the project.
'World Athletics reportedly wants to rope in an American company in conjunction with the government to take over the organisation of the event, which is scheduled for April 14. This has riled Dube and the committee that has fought so hard over the years putting together the event from its infancy as the Gaborone International Meet, up to its present status where it attracts global superstars,' a source told MmegiSport. Dube of Golden Door Sports Agency is scheduled to address a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday), where he is expected to announce the future of the event.
The government, through the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC), had offered Dube a contract where they would pay him the event's royalties. However, Dube declined the offer, and the new arrangement of a takeover was initiated. But Dube is reportedly prepared to fight, as he will not take the issue lying down and will approach the world athletics governing body, World Athletics, for clarity.
