Metswaiso Chillas takes place a day before the Son of the Soil main event at Tashy’s Royal Garden, which will also host the main event.

Given that the Son of the Soil event's ideology revolves around celebrating the folklore and history of Botswana through storytelling and performances, Choppies and Mophane identified an opportunity to enhance the event's ambience by introducing a cook-off challenge.

'The incorporation of the 1Pot challenge into the Metswaiso Chillas cultural celebration initiative aims to bring a unique and exciting twist to this year’s programme,' Tumelo Ruele, the co-founder of the 1Pot Challenge, said.

Detailing the scope of the challenge, Ruele mentioned that there would be five competitors vying for the top position. 'This initiative aims to bring five eligible finalists who will showcase their cooking skills using one three-legged cast-iron pot over the blazing ground fire prepared with Mophane Wa Makomoto firewood. This one-pot meal will infuse ingredients from Choppies,' he explained.

He highlighted that eligible contestants selected for the competition should be passionate, food enthusiasts, culture-driven, aged above 25 years, and open to all genders. The ultimate winner of the first 1Pot Challenge is set to receive P2,500 and hampers from Choppies and Mophane Wa Makomoto.

Meanwhile, Mercy Thebe, the business development director of Mophane Wa Makomoto, expressed delight that their brands would play a role in Son of the Soil, an event that continues to celebrate and preserve the fading culture of Botswana.

The main event of Son of the Soil is scheduled for Saturday, with ticket prices as follows: Normal P250, VIP P950, children U15 P40, and cooler box P50.
