Madikwe Cultural Festival Celebrates African Heritage in Style

“This year we decided to do Madikwe Cultural Festival in March as opposed April due to the weather conditions. We want our patrons to enjoy the festival and not worry about rain,’’ said Tshegofatso Powane, the Founder and Director of Madikwe Cultural Festival. The festival featured a wide range of activities that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Botswana.
Traditional games were played, poems were recited, and competitions were held to determine who wore the best traditional attire. In addition, attendees were treated to a feast of traditional Setswana cuisine, including dishes such as bogobe jwa lerotse, setampa, seswaa, maraka, mmidi, morogo wa dinawa, tlhako, lechotlho, and bojalwa jwa Setswana.
Art lovers were also in for a treat, as the festival featured art exhibitions and portraits that highlighted the talent and creativity of local artists. The event was graced by the presence of a Member of Parliament, Mabuse Pule, who added a touch of elegance to the proceedings.
Pule said the festival, being held in Newville Gardens in Sikwane, is a great way for residents of the Dinokeng villages and surroundings to celebrate culture and diversity. Music and dance were also a big part of the festival, with performances by Botswana’s favourite dikhwaere vocalist, Dr Vom of Tsaya Thobane fame, as well as traditional song and dance acts like Sua Pan, Maghebula, Yaya, Matlotla, KhoiSan, Dikgogela, DJ Fondo Fire and many others.
The Madikwe Cultural Festival was a resounding success, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate and honour the rich cultural heritage of Botswana.
