According to information reaching this publication, affiliates have written a letter to the executive committee, dated January 3, calling for a special general meeting and the dissolution of the executive committee due to a lack of quorum following the resignation of other members.

This is not the first time Binda has faced opposition, surviving a motion of no confidence during an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November. Responding to the call for a meeting, Binda explained the challenges in convening a Special General Meeting. “Note that upon receiving the letter, secretary-general, Kabelo Gadise, tried to convene a meeting of the executive committee to no avail since members failed to form a quorum.

Gadise and Kenny Maragana (PRO) resigned on February 6,” Binda’s letter reads. Binda mentioned that the Registrar of Societies had instructed PBAB to apply for re-registration to avoid removal from the list. Boxer Thuso ‘Scud’ Khubamang expressed dissatisfaction with Binda and his committee. “How will they sanction fights when they do not form a quorum and that is why they are not able to operate as expected? The way they do things is behind time. Even executive committee meetings are not taking place because there is no quorum.

The president has resorted to calling people asking them to join the committee,” he said. For his part, Binda emphasised the importance of procedure and progress. “I could have long left but for the love of sport and to avoid putting the sporting code into disrepute, I opted to stay and give them (PBAB) time to make informed decisions. What is happening is from the AGM, (is that) they still have the same mentality,” he said. The remaining committee members include Obed Monkge (vice president), Boemo Gaolathe (treasurer), and two additional members, Edwin Sebina and Bonolo Rabeta. Binda outlined plans to co-opt individuals to fill the vacant positions. Despite the challenges, he asserted that fights are still sanctioned, and tournaments are regulated. “I still deliver despite having a busy schedule with my business.

I still find time to assist the association. I might leave my position as president of the association due to conflicts. I also have challenges with other members of my executive committee who are inactive. It piles a lot of work on my table especially when we have events,” Binda said.

Meanwhile, Moabi Ngaka has been reported to have lost his World Boxing Federation (WBF) super bantamweight title for failing to defend it within the stipulated period. He won the title after beating Onkarabile ‘Scara’ Mothibedi in 2021. Ngaka, unaware of the decision, told MmegiSport he had not received communication from WBF and argued that he could not defend the title without a bout offer. “They cannot say I failed to defend the title because they did not offer me any bout. The promoter of this fight was Khubamang and he failed to organise a title defence for me.

I could not follow him around,” he said. Khubamang, associated with the title defence organisation, clarified in response that he was not Ngaka's manager or promoter. “I am not his promoter or manager and he is not even in my stable, even when he won the title, I did not get a cent from him.

He should be grateful that I gave him an opportunity,” he said. Khubamang stated that it is not within his responsibility to organise title bouts for Ngaka but rather his manager's duty. He explained that this was the reason WBF decided to strip him of the title. Khubamang highlighted that he has also aided other boxers, such as Stephen ‘Small’ Bagwasi and Tshepang ‘Gearbox’ Babui, in challenging for titles.
