The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, which was underpinned by the BSEL’s commitment to empowering communities through philanthropy, was spearheaded by newly appointed board chairperson, Neo Sesame Mooki.
According to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thapelo Tsheole, the BSEL proudly donated P20,000 to this cause, emphasising its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs. He added that the board chair also elected to donate all of her sitting remuneration towards good causes and charities in Botswana.
“A significant portion of the funds, including the P20,000 donated to the women-led SME in Chobe, originates from the Chairperson’s recent board sitting remuneration,” said Tsheole.
He added that Mooki’s generous contribution underscores her commitment to making a tangible difference in the communities within which the BSE operates. For her part, Mooki revealed that she was fully committed to promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance among women.
'These women are not just artisans; they are the bedrock of our society, embodying resilience, creativity, and hope,' she said.
Neo Mooki was appointed BSEL Board Chair late last year. She is Managing Director & Head of Insurance and Private Asset Solutions at Generali Group, based in Milan, Italy. She is passionate about supporting start-ups and SME businesses with advice on innovative finance and impact investing. In her spare time, she mentors young people, and enjoys hiking in the outdoors.
