Debswana, BOCRA join forces to boost cybersecurity

The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday which officials said underscores the importance of taking proactive measures in safeguarding digital infrastructure in a technology-driven world.
Debswana managing director, Andrew Motsumi said the collaboration is in line with the group’s strategy which focuses on leveraging technology to drive operational efficiency and resilience. He noted that cybersecurity plays a crucial role in protecting assets and ensuring uninterrupted production levels.
The MoU with BOCRA covers various aspects of cybersecurity, including training, monitoring of attack surfaces, incident response support, and collaboration with experts in the field. By working closely with local, regional, and international partners Debswana aims to strengthen its cyber resilience and stay ahead of evolving threats.
“It is essential for all stakeholders to prioritise cybersecurity and remain vigilant in the face of increasing risks,” Motsumi said at the MoU signing. “By joining forces with BOCRA and other industry players, Debswana is committed to creating a secure cyber environment that will safeguard its operations and contribute to the continued success of Botswana’s mining industry.”
He further explained that by working together and leveraging collective expertise, the two organisations can build a stronger, more resilient future for the mining industry in Botswana. Motsumi also encouraged Batswana to remain proactive and united in their efforts to combat cyber threats and ensure the security of digital infrastructure.
For his part, BOCRA CEO, Martin Mokgware, stated that the collaboration comes with a lot of benefits for both organisations as they will start helping each other in terms of research and analysis of technology and projects that affect both parties. He said the partnership would boost the exchange and development of human resources including relevant staff.
