Smash Maniacs will host the 2024 edition of the Clash of Titans on Saturday at Naledi Senior Secondary School Hall.
The tournament has over the years dished exciting contests and this year, Butale's life on the table would come under the spotlight. She has represented the national teams across junior and senior levels and secured multiple titles before she moved to coaching duties.
Butale has become a trailblazer in the women's section of ping-pong alongside Tshepiso Rebatenne and the late Matshidiso Osi-Moses and her club, Smash Maniacs said it is a fitting gesture to honour the legend.
'This year's edition is dedicated to celebrating our living legend Boitshwarelo Butale. Boasting over 25 years of actively playing table tennis, Mma B as she is affectionately known in Smash Maniacs Table Tennis Club, has achieved a feat worth celebrating. She has served her club and country and brought medals and joy to the table tennis family. Most importantly she now brings hope through the Re Ba Bona Ha project at Mabeleapodi village.
The BNSC/Debswana funded project sees her now focusing mainly on talent identification and nurturing of kids in table tennis,' a statement from Smash Maniacs reads. Titans will clash on a celebratory day as paddlers want to gain form early into the season with rankings in mind. The tournament features all the senior, Under-15 and Under-13 categories of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
The winners will take home P900 for the seniors and P500 for the juniors. The second-placed will pocket P600 and P300 for juniors while the seniors' semi-finalists will get P400 as the juniors take home P200. Meanwhile, the Super League will resume next Saturday with round two of games.
