Mukokomani received 17 votes against seven that were cast for the outgoing Mosimanegape. Masego Kwape, who was to be a third candidate for the presidential position was not nominated. Speaking to SportMonitor, Mukokomani said he has never really left softball.

He was the chairperson for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Softball Africa qualifiers that were hosted in Gaborone in February 2023. He was also seating on the WBSC board as a member of the Men’s Fast Pitch Softball Commission. “Mosimanegape is my friend, there is nothing bad about him.

It was a challenging period for him to navigate from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic did not only affect softball but the entire sport in general. I am going to work with him, even Thabo Thamane. I want to make sure that we are all in the same picture for the sake of softball.

We are one family and our interest is to see softball progressing,” Mukokomani said. He said this week he will be meeting with members of his executive committee to share his vision and map the way forward. Mukokomani said the most critical thing is that in whatever plan, they should make sure that it coincides with Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC), and Ministry Youth, Gender, Sport, and Culture (MYSC) plans or else nothing would work out. He said the outcome of the elections should not be viewed as a win but it is who the softball community wants. Letsweletse Jonas, who resigned as BSA spokesperson in 2021, was elected unopposed as vice president said he was not asked by anybody to contest for the position. “Softball has dropped and need robust action to come back.

Hence I found it necessary for me to raise my hand and here we are. I am ready to put my best foot forward,” Jonas said. Veteran pitcher, Romeo Tshelametse is the new technical development officer (TDO) after receiving 11 votes. He faced a challenge from seasoned umpire, Abel Mataboge who only received 10 votes while another candidate, veteran player Godson Motsumi got only three votes while one vote was spoilt. Same Molete is the new secretary-general while former secretary-general, Nozie Payet, is the new BSA spokesperson.

In a turn of events, nominations from the floor were not allowed for Gloria Gaosikelwe and Thato Matenge who wanted to challenge for positions of secretary-general and public relations officer (PRO) respectively. The general manager - North Zone - is Gofaone Pilane and Justus Kuswane would be responsible for competitions. Positions of general manager - South Zone - and treasurer remain vacant. Softball is also yet to appoint a legal advisor.
