Kgafela II has been living in South Africa since 2012 after he relocated due to his legal battle with the State over flogging incidents in Kgatleng. While he has always remained mum about his return to the country, Kgafela II on Saturday told dozens in his tribe of his impending return, which he said would coincide with his plans of building a new life.

Addressing the gathering virtually from South Africa, Kgafela explained to Bakgatla who had graced the official opening of Leobo La Kgotla at the main kgotla in Mochudi in large numbers, that for this new life chapter he wants to build with his subjects a life of no poverty, no crime, and no pain and suffering.

“The words that I will say next are of promise and encouragement. In 2030, let these be written in your hearts, that I’ll be coming home. I’ll be returning home. We will start a new chapter of life of no poverty, no crime, and no unhappiness due to some improper way of doing things. “Between 2030 and 2040, we will build a foundation of a new life together where a human being will become one, ruled by Kgosikgolo as we know in Sekgatla,” Kgafela said. Furthermore, Kgafela stated that the new shelter (leobo) was built ideally to accommodate the Kgatleng traditional council, which will be representative of all Kgatleng villages in Botswana (22) and South Africa (32). He stated that this traditional council will be responsible for building a better human and starting this new chapter of life for Bakgatla.

He likened this promised new chapter to the time of Aquarius, which he said would be a period of truth and justice. Kgafela said he considered the current times as a period of untruth, hunger and endless suffering which is self-created. He said the time for change has arrived and challenged other visionary traditional leaders to lead their tribes in the new chapter. Kgafela said some people are still basking in the past and do not want to admit that time has moved. “I promise you that I’ll be coming back and we will embark on this new chapter; to build a new Kgatleng. But everything will be built in that shelter to share in its spirit, which is the spirit of truth, peace, and happiness. Our new motto which will be inscribed in this shelter is ‘The greatest happiness for the greatest number of citizens’. Our new life will be built on that motto,” he said. Kgafela also encouraged Bakgatla to attend his kgotla meetings in South Africa where he continues to share his vision with other members of the tribe.
