Murder accused prison warder for psychiatric assessment

Konongwe's circumstances changed for the worse when his lesser charge of unlawfull wounding metamorphosed to murder after his victim succumbed to knife stabbings. Appearing before Senior Magistrate Tshepo Thedi this week, Konongwe who is accused of killing Onkabetse Kgamanyane following a scuffle with the deceased and another at the Airport junction Mall by stabbing him with a knife and causing him to sustain injuries which lead to his death, the 37 year old man looked distraught and confused as he walked up to the dock.
The state told the court that it felt he was a candidate for the psychiatric evaluation because of the way he carries himself in court and also because of the injuries he sustained after a mob attack.
According to the state the murder accused has been complaining of body pains since the incident. For his part, Konongwe told the court that since the incident he suffers from a neurological disorder. Magistrate Thedi granted the application and ordered that the man be referred to Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital. Meanwhile, Bank Gaborone has since released a statement confirming the incident citing, “Please be informed that there was an unfortunate incident of violence and assault at Airport junction Mall. The Peo Finance and Bank Gaborone staff members were not injured and are safe. However, the security officer for Bank Gaborone and Peo Finance branches and a member if the public were violently assaulted, leading to the untimely death of the latter.”
