The man behind the judgment, Charles McErick joined the BFL as chief prosecutor on May 2 and has had a busy time in his first two weeks in charge. He has already made two key decisions, which include reinstating Mochudi Centre Chiefs' points after the club was accused of failing to remit part of the gate takings to the First Division South committee.

Then on Tuesday, McErick delivered a judgment that became the dominant topic, particularly on social media. But who is McErick? According to information provided by the BFL, McErick is an 'astute attorney with a comprehensive legal and practical knowledge in all areas of corporate-commercial law and with a niche in mining and minerals law'.

He is a partner at McErick Attorneys and was the chairperson of the University of Botswana Law Society between 2014 and 2015. Although the BFL said it would not comment further on this week's judgment, sources said authorities at Lekidi Centre were content with the execution of McErick's first major assignment.

In a May 2 press statement announcing the appointment of McErick and two prosecutors, Ishmael Moatshe and Makungekwa Maswabi, the BFL said they expect the individuals to discharge their duties without fear or favour. 'We take this opportunity to wish the above individuals everything of the best in the discharge of their duties, without fear or favour, and in accordance with the BFL, BFA and CAF Statutes, as well as the FIFA Legal Handbook,' read the statement.
