With a string of awards under their belt from national and international competitions, the group has set sight on taking chorale music in Botswana to new heights.

In a bid to showcase their artistic excellence and promote cultural exchange, Maikano Serenaders will stage a Classical Concert this Saturday at the GICC in Gaborone. Ernest Mmani said the concert will feature a performance of Giacchino Rossini’s Stabat Mater, a revered piece of classical music.

To further elevate the event, the renowned Da Capo Orchestra group from Klerksdorp, South Africa, will also be in attendance. Mmani also said there will be 10 other solo performances from different individuals. Furthermore, Mmani stated that the objectives of the event are wide-ranging with a focus not only on showcasing the talent of Maikano Serenaders but also on giving back to the community. “Part of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to a capacity building workshop for the less privileged in Gaborone West, where the choir is based.

This commitment to community outreach demonstrates the choir’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond the realm of music,” Mmani said. Additionally, he stated that the classical concert also aims to promote collaboration within the creative industries and highlight the innovative ideas that are shaping Botswana’s cultural landscape.

“This promises to be a night of enchanting music and cultural celebration, as Maikano Serenaders take centre stage and captivate audiences with their harmonious voices. By incorporating an orchestral element into the show, Maikano Serenaders hope to add value to the choral industry and inspire other artists to push boundaries and explore new avenues of expression,” he added. The two-hour event will take place from 7pm to 9pm. Tickets are sold at web tickets, standard P400, VIP Single P850 and VIP Double P1, 500.
