As part of the prize they will have access to month of expertise from Boston Consultancy Group. The support will help accelerate and boost Viva in re-redefining its business module, linking them with relevant stakeholders in the business ecosystem and elevating their reach to a more international or global audience.

CEO and founder of the Gabane based company, Mmakwena Moesi, said the award is good news for a company that is still at infancy stages. “We won first prize of the start-up slam challenge hosted by Green Tech festival in Berlin, Germany,” she explained. “This is great news especially with the current stage our business as we are looking into getting into the market.

Majority of our resources and time have gone to product validation, getting our regulations, requirement together.” The Green Tech festival is a global platform showcasing cutting edge technologies for a sustainable future. Moesi pointed out the Boston Consultancy Group will assist them to penetrate the local, regional and global markets as their strategy is to be export ready in the African region. “We want to enter into the market, provide environmentally sound, affordable and accessible solutions for Africans to boost our food productivity and empower our communities,” she added.

Viva Organica manufactures bio-fertilisers from organic waste to support the resilience of farming communities in growing organic and nutrient dense crops that can withstand recurring drought seasons, heatwaves and erratic rainfall in Botswana. The company’s flagship products are Vermogro and Biobrew, a granular and liquid organic fertiliser. Vermogro is a 100% natural, safe, odourless and eco-friendly organic granular feritilsier for use in all crops. On the other hand, BioBrew is a liquid biostimulant and organic fertiliser made from enriched compost tea brewed with premium worm castings, plant extracts and beneficial microbes that stimulate plant growth and reduce transplant shock.

Moesi said she currently has a staff complement of five.

Meanwhile, the Boston Consultancy Group is already working with a number of Africans that have projects that deals with sustainability and restoration work, restoration-project, business or organisation, land preservation, conservation as well as empowerment of community that are preserving biodiversity.
