The South African led Jwaneng Galaxy to second successive league triumph over the weekend with a 1-0 win over Orapa United. They finished the season with one point ahead of Rollers and two over Gaborone United (GU). It took the last 90 minutes to decide champions.
Ramoreboli failed to win against the Blues in the just ended season. The two teams had played to a 0-0 draw in the first round and Rollers won 1-0 in the second round match played a few days ago. The result in the second round had Rollers breathing on Galaxy’s neck and the two teams needed to be separated by the last round of matches on the final day.
“All the teams played well, very committed but honestly speaking I think I need to give credit to a team that was very, very competitive which is, Township Rollers. Despite the inconsistency, they kept on fighting and towards the end, they put us under pressure, and you are not going to buy experience. You could see the experience of (Simisane) Mathumo, Mosha (Gaolaolwe), (Marcell) Papama and many other players who helped the team,” said Ramoreboli.
Rollers won their tie away to TAFIC 1-0 on the afternoon but needed a favour from Orapa United to add to their 16 league titles. GU on the other hand were rampant in their 3-1 win over Holy Ghost but relied on both Galaxy and Rollers losing their last matches. Rollers’ league drought stretches to four years now while the Reds last tasted the championship two seasons back.
Meanwhile, Galaxy’s 65 points is the lowest in the last three seasons as GU and Galaxy both exceeded the 70 points mark in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 respectively.
