Miss Botswana glams up for homecoming

The Miss Botswana management team has revealed that the ceremony will be a grand affair, complete with a planned motorcade. The road back to her roots on May 31 will bring to life Tutume main kgotla. Miss Botswana spokesperson Ambrociah Samboko told Arts&Culture that the queen and her team intend to go all out for the homecoming ceremony. “The homecoming ceremony is not just a celebration of Anicia Gaothusi's remarkable achievement. It is also a symbol of the unity and support of the nation as she embarks on her journey as Miss Botswana 2024. As Gaothusi prepares for the 72nd Miss World pageant in 2025, this event marks a significant moment for the community to come together and honour one of their own,” Samboko said.

“The preparations have been going smoothly. We are working hand in hand with MYSC [Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture] and the commissioner’s office in Tutume in organising Gaothusi’s homecoming. So, the activities include a beautiful motorcade around the beautiful village of Tutume to appreciate her home,” Samboko noted.

Samboko highlighted that the motorcade would conclude at the main kgotla where the day proceedings will continue and wrap up the grand day for Gaothusi. Samboko hinted that though everything has been running smoothly, they are yet to tick all the boxes.

“We are still putting the final touches on the programme such as the time of commencement and other activities. So, the time of commence will be communicated during the course of the week,” she said.

Gaothusi is reportedly excited that the event is drawing closer.

“She has been waiting for this since day one, so she is more than ready and happy about it. She will be wearing locally designed outfits from the same designers who will be working on her Miss World wardrobe,” Samboko said.

Meanwhile, Miss Botswana invites Tutume residents and those from surrounding areas to join Gaothusi on her special day.
