Leroy-Mosepidi hails from a small village in the Kgalagari called Draaihoek, just 54km south east of Werda. She is married in Moshupa and plans to fight social ills such as gender-based violence (GBV). This beauty with brains, who is an accountant by profession, told Arts&Culture that she joined the pageantry because she is concerned about GBV, which is ravaging the fabric of society. She said this is why she launched her project titled, Letsibogo, in March this year as part of her efforts to address the matter. She added that Letsibogo is a holistic mentorship programme targeted at the youth and children who hail from households affected by GBV.

“The mandate of MRS Botswana is to advocate for happy and healthy marriages and family lives, and by my mere participation in the pageant, I have learnt so much about what being a homemaker is, what being a woman of substance means and these are lessons I cherish very much. I believe my purpose lies in serving people. As such, this title and crown will only push me to do more for my community and inherently, my country,” she said. When talking about her journey in the pageantry, Leroy-Mosepidi indicated that she did not face many challenges in her journey towards coronation as she had so much support from her husband, family and church so it made it very smooth and easy for her.

Leroy-Mosepidi also explained that the pageantry was quite an expensive “sport” adding that for her to position herself better on the international scene, she needs immense financial backing. She therefore said she would appreciate it if individuals and companies would assist her in that regard. “The Mrs Universe competition is scheduled for October of this year in South Korea and we have recently started preparations for it. Batswana betsho, we have aspirations to clinch the Mrs Universe crown and we know that we can only realise this dream with your support. You have rallied behind me before, so I humbly ask that you do the same once again. This is a call to corporates, individuals and companies alike, re fano, re tlhoka tlhotloetso ya lona, segolobogolo ka tsa madi,” she ended.

The director of MRS Botswana beauty pageant, Kgalalelo Lesetedi, said she made a beauty pageant that will inspire married women to look elegant, take care of their families and give all married women a chance to revive their marriages. She stated that the beauty pageant is a registered trademark and is held annually. “MRS Botswana is an established organisation incorporated in Botswana specialising in the business of family management and recreation. We offer marriage and family seminars, family woman seminars, family man seminars, working mom or dad seminars and recreation, single parenting workshops and a number of family-oriented activities,” Lesetedi explained. She said their main aim was to create a good relationship in families where there would be transparency and peace to build happy, healthy and sustainable families in Botswana. She added that they host their activities with the engagement of relevant and reputable stakeholders to reduce divorce rates or conflicts by intensifying pre-marital and post-marital counselling and team-building activities for couples and their families.
