The club is inviting unregistered women football players for trials tomorrow at the team’s home ground, The Nest scheduled for 4pm. The aspirant players should be 25 years and below and are required to bring their own training regalia, the club has said through a statement. The formation of the women’s team is set to be concluded ahead of the next campaign and Matebele women’s team could make their debut in the Kgatleng Region Women’s League in the 2024-2025 season. The Eagle follow among other elite league clubs including, Jwaneng Galaxy and Police XI who formed the women’s teams in the past three years.

The Jungle Queens have been promoted to the Gaborone Region Women’s Division 1 league after finishing second to Division 2 champions, Township Rollers in what was their second competitive football league season. Galaxy Ladies on the other hand missed the South Block promotion by just a whisker after finishing second to Jwaneng Mine Southern Region League champions, Zodiac Collab Girls. The number of men’s teams tapping into women’s football is expected to increase following a directive from the continental governing body, CAF, that for clubs to participate in the men’s inter-club competitions they should have a women’s team.

The South Block playoffs will meanwhile be held this Saturday in Lobatse after they paved way for the Orange FA Cup final played at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium over the weekend. A quartet of BDF XI, Gaborone United, Royal Fighters and Zodiac Collabo Girls are vying for a single slot in the DTCB Women’s Championship.
