The new joint, situated at the Mowana Park in Phakalane, occupies the same space where it was originally Cigar Lounge and most recently, The Summit Lounge. The opening was graced by the who’s and who’s of the entertainment and corporate industry. Tounel is an upmarket nightclub seeking to bring an unmatched nightlife experience to Gaborone. With a strict bottle policy, the new spot caters for the who's and who's of the entertainment industry, your chief executives and celebrities. "We are bringing a high-end nightclub that caters for your celebrities, CEOs and the elite. It was designed with you in mind. It really caters for the upper-class market. Entrance is free but we have a strict bottle policy but we promise an exceptional blend of music, ambience and entertainment," said Tshepo Brando Keabile, the lounge's spokesperson.

The opening of Tounel follows the acquisition of the Summit Lounge by the new owners, The Sankhaya Group. Despite the recovery of the industry, the venue has struggled to replicate its yesteryear's success, and the Sankhaya Group, renowned for their success with Corner Couch aims to rejuvenate the new venture. The new owners have changed a few things to bring a different touch and feel to the spot. It has what is called House of Bahanos, which is cigar and whiskey lounge as well as the main club. The spot also operates a 24/7 kitchen to cater for the patrons. It is said that VIP packages would range from P4, 000 upwards. "Tounel's aim is to offer a re-imagined nightlife experience featuring top talents providing cutting-edge entertainment, exceptional security and friendly exquisite culinary delights," added Brando. Brando said as a new venture, they would not want to dwell much on what happened in the past but turn the new venture into a place with inviting atmosphere, making it a perfect destination for nightlife enthusiasts.
