The journey, which has reignited national pride, culminated in the announcement of these talented women at the National Museum Auditorium on Saturday. Safie Sekgwa, the National Director of Miss Universe Botswana, shared his enthusiasm about the pageant’s progress. “Everything is going according to plan,” he said, adding that the contestants are actively engaged in pre-pageant activities. A significant change this year is the updated entry requirements announced by the Miss Universe Organisation. Sekgwa emphasised that the contestants are judged looking at leadership, charisma, intelligence, confidence, eloquence, ambition and personal style, among others. Sekgwa indicated that the profiles of the contestants have already been presented for public’s appreciation. “On September 12, 2023, we removed age restrictions for contestants over 18, allowing more women to compete. Previously, contestants had to be between 18 and 28-years-old. ” Sekgwa highlighted.

This move reflects a commitment to inclusivity, welcoming mothers, married women, and divorced women to participate. The revised entry requirements reflect the pageant’s commitment to inclusivity, emphasising that any confident, intelligent, and ambitious woman, regardless of her civil status, height, body size, or shape, can participate. The pageant aims to champion a future led by women who have the courage to push boundaries and achieve greatness. “We seek confident, intelligent, and ambitious women who can represent the nation as its ultimate face and brand ambassador at the global stage,” Sekgwa emphasised.

Returning after a 10-year hiatus, Botswana is set to showcase its evolution and resilience. The Top 20 finalists, selected after a rigorous interview process where they answered why they should be chosen and crowned, represent a diverse group of women ready to make their mark. The excitement surrounding Botswana’s return to the Miss Universe pageant is palpable, both locally and internationally. This comeback not only highlights Botswana’s rich cultural heritage but also its commitment to empowering women from all walks of life. As the competition heats up, the grand finale is slated on September 21st, where the new Miss Universe Botswana will be crowned. The winner will then represent Botswana at the international Miss Universe finale in Mexico at the end of the year. “Even though only one will be titled Miss Universe Botswana 2024, every contestant leaves as a winner, having had the chance to develop personal, professional, and philanthropic goals,” Sekgwa noted. The top 20 finalists are as follows: Amanda Nkwe, (21), Bangu Montsho (24), Changu Ernest (28), Edith Segokgo (21) Kedi Molosiwa (28), Khumo Kailane (27), Lame Ntelang-Segaise (25), Leila Anderson (18), Lisa Lenyora (21), Messiah Jackson (36), Michelle Ramotshwarapula (28), Mosa Gontshwanetse (19), Naomi Tsiaka (19), Precious Haushiko (21), Ruth Kgotlaetsile (27), Ruth Thomas (23), Sebaga Manyapetsa (24), Setho Monaka (22), Shaandria Babbage (18), Thanolo Keutlwile (28).
