The initiative kicked off with a group of students from Naledi Senior Secondary School, marking the beginning of a nationwide effort to engage and mentor the next generation of leaders. The ‘Future Leader Day’ programme offers basic education schools a unique opportunity to visit HB Botswana’s state-of-the-art facilities and learn about the journey of Botswana’s precious diamonds. Through this immersive experience, students gain first-hand insight into the processes and technologies involved in the mineral transformation journey, while also understanding their significance to the country’s economy.

In a statement, HB Botswana spokesperson, Omogolo Mathumo, said the students from Naledi Senior Secondary School participated in a series of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and innovation. They were introduced to various aspects of diamond processing and had the chance to interact with young engineers and professionals at HB Botswana. “This mentorship component is a cornerstone of the programme, providing students with valuable guidance and inspiration from those who have successfully pursued careers in the industry. “HB Botswana is committed to investing in the future of Botswana by empowering our youth with knowledge and opportunities,” said Mathumo.

He added that the ‘Future Leader Day’ programme is designed to cultivate a sense of pride and ownership in the country’s national resources while encouraging students to envision their own potential contributions to Botswana’s development. Mathumo said HB Botswana plans to extend the initiative to schools across Gaborone and ultimately throughout the entire country. “By reaching out to a diverse range of schools, the programme aims to ensure that students from all regions of Botswana can benefit from this enriching experience. “As HB Botswana continues to expand the ‘Future Leader Day’ programme, the company remains dedicated to its mission of nurturing the talents and aspirations of Botswana’s youth,” said Mathumo.
