Riders target double points as race reaches midpoint

The event to be held in Dimawe, near Mmankgodi on Saturday, will host the third and fourth rounds of the BMS national championship. There was a brief break after the completion of the Jwaneng Desert Challenge, which was the second round of the championship. The Dimawe 200 is seen as a pivotal moment in the race for the season honours as riders target double points. After this weekend, four more rounds remain in the nine-round 2024 BMS off-road season calendar. It would be an interesting period with the congested schedule set to take a toll on both the riders and the machines as the remaining rounds will be held from August to October.
Kosmas Mamaloukos is in pole position in the senior category after the first two rounds and he leads the pack by 55 points. The biker, who competes in the OR1 class, won the Jwaneng Desert Challenge to collect 30 points, an addition to the 25 points he won in the first round, Kopong 200 after he finished in second position. He is the favourite in the senior category and would hope for a more improved showing over the weekend. Euan Harmse trails by 21 points as he occupies the second position in the senior category. He has collected 34 points after finishing sixth in both of the two first rounds while Vince Sephatla completes the top three with 33 points and just a point behind Harmse. Sephatla is enjoying a steady season as he started in 13th place in the first round before an improvement to fourth finish in the second. Wade Den is not far off the top three with 30 points.
He missed a chance to better his ranking after missing the Jwaneng Desert Challenge but a win in the Kopong200 has kept him slightly in the contest for the seniors' title. Radikolo Linchwe is proving to be a tougher opponent in the junior category as he feeds from the 2023 impressive run. Linchwe has won both the opening rounds and accumulated points, 60 thus far. This weekend’s double header could have a huge say on his title ambitions as second-placed Bushe Moalosi trails by 14 points. Moalosi finished third in the first two rounds to keep himself in contention for the overall juniors’ title. Third-placed Kassandros Mamaloukos is third on the standings with 37 points and would look to better his fourth-place finish in the Jwaneng Desert Challenge. Competitors registration will close this evening (Friday).
