Golf, Jazz to be fused

In an interview with Arts&Culture this week, one of the event organisers, Rapula Kegopilwe, stated that the idea behind Golf and Jazz Sunday is to break barriers and bring people together over golf and jazz to enjoy. Kegopilwe further highlighted that the event is an extension of the Diamond City Jazz Festival. “The Golf and Jazz Sunday is part of a series of activities for the Diamond City Jazz Festival. The events will run from Friday to Sunday starting with the gala dinner, then the music festival on Saturday and then the Golf and Sunday Jazz,” he said. “The event is designed to showcase the festival’s diversity and allow our corporate partners to host their clients and festival patrons beyond the festival.
It is designed to be an interactive Sunday with soothing sounds of Jazz,” he added. With jazz losing popularity across the globe as Amapiano and Afro beats are taking over, Kegopilwe stated that it is up to them to keep the jazz genre alive by hosting such events. “The Diamond City Jazz Festival is a festival to revive the jazz community in the city of Gaborone. This is meant to recognise the contribution of Gaborone to the Afro-jazz heritage. The diversity of events is to amplify places for patrons to continue to revel in jazz,” Kegopilwe revealed. As most revellers are more accustomed to festivals about Amapiano of late, Kegopilwe highlighted that their target is the sophisticated class, which includes corporate partners and their clients.
He further said the artists booked for the event are natural crowd-pullers. The line-up for the show includes Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Bhudaza, Steve Dyer, Mpho Sebina, Nono Siile and Azana, among others. Ticket packages for the event include the individual hole package which costs P3, 500, the standard hole package is P10, 000, and the premium hole package at P20, 000.
