Unforgettable experience for Absa Dithubaruba Heritage Walk hikers

Organised by the Dithubaruba Fund Raising Committee, the event brought together nature enthusiasts, history buffs and community members to explore the rich heritage of the region. Over 150 participants gathered at the Ntsweng Heritage Site (Kwa ga MmaKgosi) in Molepolole for the 10.9 km walk through the stunning Lekadiba (The Kloof). The route offered a unique opportunity for one to immerse in the area’s history, with stops at significant landmarks such as Mmapudinyane Hill, Lekadiba and Kobokwe Cave. The walk was led by colleagues from Absa Life Botswana, including Chief Financial Officer, Seabelo Wakgomo, who served as the Chief Walker.
Wakgomo, alongside co-walkers, Olebile Kgollo Mafala, Council Secretary for Kweneng District Council and Kweneng District Council Chairman, Councillor Allen Jacobs, provided enriching commentary on the cultural and historical significance of each site. The Chief Walker expressed his excitement, saying as Absa Life Botswana, they are thrilled with the overwhelming response to the Dithubaruba Heritage Walk. “The event exceeded our expectations and we are grateful for the support of our partners, volunteers and participants” he added. A standout moment was the participation of the cast and crew of 'Motswasele' a pivotal work in Botswana’s literary canon.
Their presence added an exciting dimension to the walk, generating buzz for the upcoming theatrical adaptation of Motswasele II on September 6 and the Dithubaruba Music and Cultural Festival on September 7, 2024. Power Kawina, the Coordinator of the annual Dithubaruba Cultural Festival and lead guide for the walk, commented that this year’s heritage walk was purposefully designed to offer participants a special edutainment treat and a chance to appreciate and explore the hidden treasures of Bakwena. Participants had the opportunity to traverse the exquisite flora and fauna, rocky landscape, as well as places of historical and cultural prominence in and around the Ntsweng Heritage landscape.
Proceeds from the walk will contribute to the Dithubaruba Fund Raising Committee, supporting the upcoming Dithubaruba Cultural Festival. The festival will continue to celebrate Botswana’s heritage, featuring performances that further enrich the community’s connection to its cultural roots. “The Dithubaruba Heritage Walk is a testament to our commitment to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.
