Masisi leads Olympic heroes' welcome

For the first time in the history of Botswana's participation at the Olympics since 1980, the team has won two medals. Letsile Tebogo won a gold medal, which is a first for Botswana while the men’s relay team scooped a silver medal. The celebrations started on Friday when Masisi declared an afternoon holiday in honour of Tebogo. The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) communications manager, Baboni Kupe, told MmegiOnline that the team will arrive aboard Air Botswana around 14:35hrs.
“There will be a water salute, which is a cheerful airport celebration to honour our heroes. President Masisi will welcome the team at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport VVIP lounge. A motorcade is planned from the airport to the National Stadium where athletes will march on the track to greet Batswana, who we expect to fill up the stands,” she said. Kupe said an official welcome ceremony is slated for Wednesday at the Travel Lodge, Block 3. Botswana had sent a team of 12 athletes competing in two sporting codes, athletics and swimming. The team finished in position 55.
