The young woman is reported to have sustained head injuries. Broadhurst Police Station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae confirmed the incident to The Monitor over the weekend. He revealed that the young woman was hit by the car during the morning traffic jam. “The accident is suspected to have happened at around 7:30am, but we received the report at 8am at our station.

The accident took place at the Nelson Mandela road just after the traffic lights,” Lokae said. He indicated that luckily the driver who hit the woman didn't flee the scene which is what some people would do when they find themselves in that position. “The 20-year-old was knocked by a Mazda Axela car which was travelling from north to south as she was crossing from east to west.

The driver is a female, aged 41, and she didn't run away after the accident,” Lokae said. He added that currently, they haven't established if the driver was speeding or not but that is what they are suspecting. The station commander elaborated that the driver is still in police custody to aid with the investigations into the matter.
