Women in Mining pitso returns

” According to organisers of the event, the theme aims to address critical issues surrounding gender inequality and the inclusion of women in the mining sector. The Pitso, which will take place at the Grand Aria Hotel, will be officially opened by the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Lefoko Moagi, and it will serve as a platform for industry stakeholders to discuss on how to increase female participation in the mining industry. At a recent media briefing held to launch the event, the Botswana Chamber of Mines CEO, Charles Siwawa, emphasised the importance of women’s participation in the mining sector.
He highlighted that enhancing the role of women in mining not only contributes to their personal economic growth, but also plays a significant part in the broader economic development of the country. Siwawa urged WIMBO to continue its advocacy and support for women in the mining sector, ensuring that they have the necessary tools and resources to thrive. WIMBO chairperson, Esther Kanaimba-Senai, echoed Siwawa’s sentiments, noting that the primary aim of the Pitso is to empower women to venture into the mining industry. She underscored the importance of addressing the challenges women face in the sector, while also providing a platform for advocacy and change “This Pitso is not just a gathering; it’s a call to action to create an inclusive and supportive environment where women can unlock their full potential within the mining and energy industries,” Kanaimba-Senai stated. In addition to the opening remarks from the Minister of Minerals and Energy, the Pitso will feature a keynote address from Air Botswana’s CEO, Lulu Rasebotsa.
The latter, a prominent leader in Botswana’s corporate landscape, will bring her insights on how gender equality and inclusion can be effectively implemented in male-dominated industries such as mining and energy. WIMBO, a fully registered non-profit organisation, has been at the forefront of advocating for the empowerment of women in the mining sector. Since its inception, the organisation has focused on creating opportunities for women, breaking down barriers to entry, and ensuring that women have a voice in shaping the future of the mining industry in Botswana.
