Accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, Selolwane will appeal for bail before the Gaborone High Court on August 30 after multiple denials at the Broadhurst Magistrate Court.
The child's mother and her friend are charged along with Selolwane, with the mother accused of failing to report the minor's alleged sexual assault.
During a status hearing this morning, Prosecutor Seeletso Ookeditse asked the court to set another date since the accused’s appeal is in a week.
“My instructions are that this matter has come for a status hearing and the accused has applied for an appeal to be heard on August 30. So may another date be set for a status hearing,” Ookeditse said.
Currently, Selolwane and the child's mother remain in custody whilst the mother's friend is out on bail.
Selolwane’s defence attorney, Obonye Jonas, confirmed the details and agreed to the request for a new date.
Presiding Magistrate Goratile Moremi-Ramokoloi set the next status hearing for October.
“The accused one (Selolwane) and accused two (mother) are further remanded in custody while the third accused shall remain out on bail. Accused persons shall appear for a status hearing on October 23,” Moremi-Ramokoloi ordered.
