Chiefs' First Division status remains on sale

Chiefs will return to the elite league in the 2024–2025 FNB Premiership after five years in the dusty grounds of the second-tier football league. The four-time league champions acquired the status of Masitaoka for P600, 000 and are looking to cash on their vacant second league position before the new season starts. It had been reported that Chiefs had sold the status to Magosi FC who will play under the Kgatleng Region affiliation next season after making a switch from Kang Region. Chiefs public relations officer, Boraro Moseki, has since rubbished the reports and without mentioning the sale price, he said Chiefs’ status remains on sale. “The Chiefs (First Division South League) status remains with us, but obviously as Mochudi Centre Chiefs we cannot hold two league statuses so whoever has interest in the status can come and buy it. We are ready to negotiate. But for now, there is no one who has come forth to say they are interested. Whoever comes we would do a thorough background check on them and from there, we would decide if we are selling or not,” said Moseki. He added that the club is also open to new investors and partnerships before their return to the elite league. Despite Moseki not committing, Chiefs appear to be in partnership with former Township Rollers’ chairperson and investor, Jimmy Haskins Kereng. The team was featured in their international friendly match against Mbabane Highlanders of Eswatini, which bears the Prestige Funeral Parlours logo on the chests of their playing kits.
Magosi won the tie 1-0 thanks to a strike by newly signed, Pako Gaofose. The club has been one of the busiest in the market and their winter signings include the trio of Thatayaone Ramatlapeng, Ryan Brown and Chico Molefe from Jwaneng Galaxy. Bogosi Mfila, Jackson Lesole and Tendai Kesekile are also amongst the recruits. Chiefs will this weekend play in the Prestige Invitational tournament to be played at the Royal Aria today and tomorrow. Magosi will face Extension Gunners in the first semi-final this evening at 7pm. Township Rollers will take on Matebele FC tomorrow midday in the second semi-final while the losers final at 3:30pm. The final takes place at 6pm.
