However, despite Loeto’s compliance, prosecutors asked that he be further remanded in custody as investigations are still at infant stages. Appearing before Extension II Magistrate’s Court yesterday, State prosecutor Simon Galebonwe said investigations into the matter were ongoing and stated that the accused has been compliant in investigations thus far. “This matter is still under investigations as the accused is appearing only for the third time and we are still waiting for the forensic examinations to determine whether the accused’s DNA is found on the victims as suspected as he has provided his DNA,” he said.
“For these reasons we ask that may the accused be further remanded in custody as investigations in the matter continue.” When asked by the presiding magistrate, Keabetswe Majuta, if had anything to share with the court, the suspected serial rapist pleaded to be granted as he has a child that at this moment, he did not know their condition. “My wish is to wait for trial out on bail because I have a child who I have to look after and right now I do not know where the child is or who is looking after the child,” Loeto pleaded. However, the magistrate replied to Loeto that she had already ruled on bail before and asked the accused to proceed to the higher court to seek recourse. “Do not sit on your rights,” Majuta told Loeto, “you are allowed to go to the High Court and apply for bail there. So the accused is further remanded in custody.” Loeto is before court for allegedly raping over 15 women. The case continues on September 25.
