Gunners go for experience in ‘Dubula’

Sithole was appointed Gunners' head coach on a one-year contract in his first elite league job since parting ways with Police XI in February 2020. The well-travelled mentor has won league and cup titles with amongst others, Gaborone United, Township Rollers, Jwaneng Galaxy, and Mochudi Centre Chiefs. He will be assisted by former Gunners' development coach, Mothusi Kenosi and club icon, Tshepo Motlhabankwe. Speaking to MmegiSport this week, Gunners' public relations officer, Isaac Mmualefhe, said the team needed an experienced individual to guide the team on their return to the Premier League.
'Even if you can stay inactive you will always have that experience. If you look at the kind of assistant coaches we have roped in, we want Sithole to guide them. Kenosi is from development while Motlhabankwe has played for us, he knows our type of football. So these guys are still learning and Sithole knows the pressure of coaching in the Premier League so they will learn something from him,' he said. Mmualefhe further said the club has invited a pool of players in a bid to have a final squad today. Gunners have been quiet since acquiring their Premier League Status from Young Stars and Mmualefhe said the club would on Monday reveal their 2024-2025 squad.
'I cannot reveal the new players. The technical team is still assessing some players, some might make the cut so I would like to avoid saying anything about the new players. Our preparations are going well, this is why we started with the appointment of a technical team and the technical team would look at the players that we would need ahead of the new season. We have a number of players on assessment here because we wanted the technical team to have a wider range of players to select from. By the end of this week, the technical team would have a list of players they need,' he said.
Mmualefhe said the club's members contributed to buying the Premier League status from Young Stars as they believe the team should not be playing in the First Division. Gunners bit the dust in the 2022-2023 season and have failed on two occasions to secure one of the two promotion spots.
