Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) president, Duma Boko, has sent a stern warning to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) secretary, Jefferson Siamisang, to uphold the integrity of the elections and make sure that they are fair.

Addressing the media yesterday after his successful presidential nomination at the Gaborone High Court, Boko stated that this year they do not want a repeat of the 2019 General Election where the UDC believed that Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) cheated their way to Parliament. Boko will be vying for the presidential seat against the current President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, Dumelang Saleshando of the BCP, and BPF president, Mephato Reatile.

Boko emphasised that if it so happens that the elections are rigged, people are going to be held accountable and they will see to it that such people pay the price.

'We will accept the results if elections go well. What we will not accept is when elections are rigged like we witnessed in 2019, of which we have established how they did that. So we warn anyone who attempts to cheat that it will land them in trouble and let me direct this to Siamisang who is overseeing the elections,' Boko said.

Boko further said that the UDC has in its possession the voters roll in hard copy despite being denied the chance to have it in a soft copy format. He said it will now make it difficult for people to rig elections like in 2019.

'Let me tell you now, we have the voters roll comrade Siamisang and we are investigating evrything on it. So we warn you to stop any foul play or cheating you are doing and this is directed to Siamisang,' Boko warned.

The UDC president implored Batswana to also join Madibela Thopho who will be at the voting stations to make sure that the elections are fair and just. Boko stated that people are allowed to do so as per the electoral act.

Boko revealed that the UDC will accept the results, if the elections are not rigged.
