Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Sekondomboro and Xakao Layout Plans by the Okavango District Council
The Okavango District Council is preparing a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the Sekondomboro and Xakao Layout Plans. This invitation is in fulfilment of Section 7, subsection 2 of the Environmental Assessment (Amendment) Act 2020.
The Project
The Layout Plans serve to avail more land in the identified growth areas of the two villages. The proposed land uses include residential, industrial, commercial, civic and community and other ancillary uses. The Council has prepared a Draft Layout Plan for the two villages to address identified environmental and socio-economic challenges in the area, hence the requirement for this SEA.
Positive Impacts:
Improved zoning aspects within the villages
Increased value of land
Opening up of more parcels of land for allocation.
Negative Impacts:
Disruption of ecological habitats
Potential land use conflicts
Disruption of socio-economic and spiritual activities currently taking place
