League action resumes this weekend after a weeklong break due to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. GU is searching for their first maximum points as a tough trip to the Galaxy Stadium on Saturday afternoon looms. The Reds began their campaign with a highly contested 1-1 draw with cross-town rivals, Township Rollers, and in their only second game of the new campaign, they take on the reigning champions. GU are winless at the Galaxy Stadium since their 5-1 win in 2021. Moya goleele have, however, enjoyed their clashes against the Galaxy Stars having a slightly upper hand between the two teams. The Reds have not lost to their weekend opponents over Galaxy’s last three triumphant seasons. In the previous season, the contest failed to produce a winner and goals as it ended with goalless draws in both the first and second rounds.

This is despite the two teams proving to have a sharp eye in front of goal that season, with a combined 95 goals scored. Their players occupied the second and third positions in the leading goal-scoring charts behind Rollers. The two technical benches know a win is important to set the campaign running while easing early pressure from the fans. Both coaches, Pontsho Moloi and Morena Ramoreboli’s names have been thrown in the hat for the vacant Zebras’ head coach post following the departure of Didier Gomes Da Rosa. With eyes on the respective strike forces, GU’s new boy, Thabo Maponda, looked the part on his debut in the Gaborone derby. His partner, Molaodi Tlhalefang, would need to shrug off what could be the biggest miss of the season and get his season running. On the opposite end, forwards, Neo Mokhachane and Onkabetse Makgantai marked their league debuts for Galaxy with goals in their 2-0 win over VTM FC on the opening weekend.

The likes of Wendell Rudath, Omaatla Kebatho, and last season's leading goal-scorer, are yet to get in their goal-scoring mood and could cause all sorts of problems for the Reds’ defence on Saturday. Meanwhile, it will be a battle for the first maximum points of the season between minnows, Uniao Flamengo Santos and Township Rollers at the National Stadium at 3:30pm on Saturday. Security Systems travel to the Francistown Council Stadium where Chadibe FC lie in wait whilst Nico United welcome BDF XI at the Sam Sono Stadium. Sua Flamingoes and Morupule Wanderers clash at the Sowa Town Council Stadium whilst in an 8pm kick-off; Mochudi Centre Chiefs host Orapa United at the National Stadium. On Sunday afternoon, Extension Gunners host TAFIC at the Lobatse Sports Complex as Matebele FC clash with VTM FC at the BPSC Stadium.
