According to figures released by Statistics Botswana, Maun International Airport, which is the primary gateway to the country’s tourism heartland, saw a 66% increase in passenger volumes, while the other tourism airport, Kasane International, witnessed an 88.1% increase.

The country’s main international airport, the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA), still accounted for the majority of passengers during the second quarter at 101,742 or 45%. Maun Airport, however, enjoyed the highest number of aircraft movements over the period at 13,980 or 67% of the total recorded. Aircraft movements refer to landings and take-offs into and out of the country.

Kasane International Airport recorded 3,608 movements, while the SSKIA noted 2,709 movements. Statistics Botswana researchers noted that the reason why SSKIA had fewer aircraft movements but higher passenger volumes was that most of the aircraft movements for the Airport were international and therefore carried a larger quantity of passengers.
