Sefhare man beaten to death on Election Day

Just when the nation's focus was cast on voting in the recent general elections, a 43-year-old man of Sefhare met his death after he was beaten to a pulp by a young male trio who were denied entry into a shebeen in Bobirwa ward, at the same village. The fatal beating reportedly happened at 3pm on Election Day (October 30). Machaneng Police Station commander, Superintendent Gagopale Gaselarona said the incident occurred at the yard of the deceased's relative. 'It is alleged that the trio came in the company of two other young men into one of the deceased's relative's yard where people had gathered having a great time drinking mukuru, traditional beer,' he said. 'On arrival, the owner of the yard instructed them (the quintet) to leave her yard and they refused. The deceased allegedly intervened telling them to leave, something that caused a misunderstanding that led to a fight between the three young men and the deceased.' Gaselarona said the trio, aged 24, 25, and 26, was seen ganging up on him, beating him with everything they could get their hands on including stones, and kicking and leaving him unconscious. 'The matter was reported to the police and the victim was rushed to Sefhare local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival by the doctors. We have since arrested the suspects and they are currently in police custody helping with investigations,' he added.
