The book is a reflection of the author’s personal journey and observations, offering solace and guidance to those in leadership roles. It was published in 2024 and will officially be launched on December 14, 2024 at the Stanbic Incubator, Fairgrounds Mall. Bleeding But Leading (Legacy of a Depressed Prophet) encapsulates the paradox many leaders experience, bearing immense responsibility while battling private struggles.

“The inspiration came from my own leadership experiences and a calling to shed light on mental health challenges among spiritual and organisational leaders.

The book comprises 108 pages, divided into seven insightful chapters. It is a non-fiction, inspirational, and self-help book.

What made me tick during the writing process was the thought of providing a voice to leaders who feel voiceless and crafting a resource to bridge the gap between leadership, vulnerability, and healing,” Swereki told Arts&Culture.

He further explained that the book targeted leaders from all walks of life be it pastors, managers, educators, community leaders, and anyone burdened by responsibilities yet yearning for encouragement and understanding.

He also stated that so far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. He said readers praised its authenticity, relatability, and the practical wisdom it offers. He added that many expressed that it gave them hope and helped them confront their struggles courageously.

It was not all rosy for Swereki to pen this book. He pointed out that one of the major challenges was revisiting his own painful experiences to ensure authenticity. Additionally, he said balancing his roles as a leader, family man, and writer was demanding, requiring discipline and resilience since that was his debut book. However, he said he plans to write more works that explore leadership, faith, and personal growth in the future. “In a few years, I aspire to be a renowned author with a series of impactful books, speaking at global platforms to empower leaders and individuals facing internal battles. I also envision mentoring aspiring authors to tell their own stories. One of my favourite chapters is Chapter Two ‘The Path Narrows’ and Chapter Three ‘The Darkness Descends’. It delves deep into struggles and mishaps that are the subjects close to my heart. These chapters are particularly powerful because they resonate with the struggles and triumphs I have personally experienced,” he explained.

He said the book serves as a lifeline for those silently battling the weight of leadership and depression. Through the book, he pointed out that he aims to spark open conversations about mental health in leadership circles and to create a culture where vulnerability is seen as a strength, not a weakness.

He said as they prepare for the official launch, he invites everyone to join him in celebrating that milestone and spreading its message of hope and resilience.

Other than being a writer, Swereki is a pastor, counsellor, and the founder of Mentors of Minds Club, an NGO dedicated to empowering orphans and vulnerable children. He also engages in community outreach and motivational speaking to inspire individuals to rise above their challenges.
