Solution needed for Hatsalatladi cracks

Despite the residents’ relentless struggle and enduring fears, government has yet to provide a clear and comprehensive solution to this alarming issue. For decades, the villagers have lived under the shadow of these ominous cracks, fearing the possibility of the earth swallowing them whole. This fear is not unfounded, as the damage extends beyond psychological distress to homes, fields, and ultimately, the livelihoods of the community. The villagers find themselves trapped in a cycle of fear and uncertainty.
What makes this situation even more disheartening is the lack of concrete answers from the authorities. The Department of Geoscience conducted research in 2022, raising hopes amongst the residents. However, to date, no feedback has been provided. The abrupt announcement by the Land Board to halt new plot allocations, without any formal communication, has only added to the confusion and frustration.
Therefore, it is unacceptable that the government continues its own developments in the area while advising residents not to build. This contradictory stance exacerbates the villagers’ plight, leaving them in unsafe living conditions. The authorities’ actions are not only confusing but also appear indifferent to the villagers’ suffering. The recurring sound of an underground river, the severe structural damages to new homes, and the inaccessible fields during the rainy season paint a bleak picture. The villagers need answers and interventions. They seek peace of mind and safety, not just for themselves but for future generations. The ongoing uncertainty is eroding their confidence in the government’s ability to protect them. The government’s apparent lack of urgency and transparency in addressing this issue is troubling. The villagers have voiced their concerns repeatedly, yet their pleas seem to fall on deaf ears. This neglect cannot continue. The authorities must prioritise the safety and well-being of Hatsalatladi residents by conducting thorough investigations and providing clear explanations. Only then can the community make informed decisions about their future.
Furthermore, the residents’ resilience and determination to seek answers should be met with respect and proactive measures from the government. The community’s well-being is at stake, and immediate action is necessary to prevent further deterioration of living conditions. The government must act decisively to investigate the cause of the fissures, provide clear and transparent communication, and take necessary measures to protect the residents. The community deserves to live without the constant fear of ground fissures disrupting their lives. The authorities must address the issue with the urgency and seriousness it warrants.
