Softball delegation leaves for Zambia

The meeting was supposed to be part of the Zone VI competitions that aborted in May. It is meant to discuss among other things problems facing Zone VI competitions and the solutions. Morule said there has been a problem with some countries failing to take part in competitions.

He said this has led to cancellation of the competitions because of lack of quorum. He cited the inaugural club championships that failed because no country turned up for the event. He said Botswana would go to the meeting to make it clear that there should be sanctions against countries that do not make enough effort to take part in the Zone VI competitions.

 
He asserted that there is less commitment by some countries to softball. This is the second year running that the Zone VI softball competitions did not take place. 
The Zambia meeting is expected to look at the long-running issue of forming a continental Confederation of Softball Associations (COSA). Morule said the idea is good but countries need to commit themselves to Zone VI first.

He added that there it is difficult to succeed at continental level than when countries are at the regional level.

 
Morule believes Zone VI is better-placed to lead the formation of the confederation because it has more experience in the game than other regions. Countries that are expected to take part in the meeting are Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Namibia and hosts Zambia.
