Bus crash death toll rises

Traffic Officer Commanding Superintendent Lekgotla Rankwaila told Mmegi that they learnt of the passing of the sixth victim, a 20-year old male who was referred to Princess Marina Hospital. The ages of those who died last week ranged from three to 32 years.

Rankwaila further noted that all victims who were admitted to Selebi-Phikwe Hospital have been discharged. Three others remain hospitalised, one at Mahalapye Referral Hospital, one at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital and another at Princess Marina Hospital.

He denied reports that one of the drivers of the vehicles involved has also died. The bus driver is still hospitalised at Nyangabwe Hospital. Rankwaila said although their investigations are still continuing, there is evidence of negligence of road traffic regulations and said one of the drivers would face a charge of causing death.

He noted that both vehicles were roadworthy.  He seriously warned Facebook users against distributing false information and causing undue alarm to members of affected families.
