'Keep F/town clean to attract investors'

The director who was officiating at the 'Clean Up The World' campaign commemoration themed, 'Our Planet Our Earth Our Responsibility', advised the city residents to exercise great care of the environment.

Masesane said that in order for the city to achieve its target of becoming an investment hub by the year 2022 residents have to keep the environment clean as one way of enticing investors.

The Francistown City Council (FCC) recently launched Vision 2022 which targets turning Francistown into an investment area of choice, revolutionising the economy of the city and creating jobs. 

He explained that investors do not only assess the business regulations of a specific area they want to invest in.  'No investor can invest in a city or area which is not clean and well taken care of.  Regulations can be relaxed to accommodate investors in the city, but if the environment is not up to the desired standards, the area will be an eyesore to investors.

'They won't come. Investors know that when a city is clean they will be able to attract more clients for their products and services unlike when it is unkempt,' remarked Masesane in his speech.

Residents should also reprocess waste materials and manufacture other products with such materials (recycled materials) he said.

Used car tyres for example can be turned into flower-pots while bottles can also be decorated in various forms and sold for profit, he also advised.

Masesane's statement was given impetus by residents from various parts of the city who displayed and sold such products manufactured from waste materials such as tyres and bottles at the event.  Meanwhile a trophy which Francistown won more than two weeks ago as the cleanest city in the country at the national competitions held in Ghanzi was also shown to the public at the Phase IV hall.
