BRU president, Bob Lekan told Mmegi Sport that the initial cost of the stadium was P16 million and they intend to bring the figure down. He said they do not want to scare off potential financiers. Lekan said the plan is to conduct an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) on the construction venue with the initial funds raised. He said BRU wants to utilise the 4.6 ha plot allocated by the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) just behind Gaborone Golf Club to build the stadium.

'We need money to develop the land because we spend a lot of money on rental when using other institution's facilities such as Wharic Park or the University of Botswana Stadium. We pay around P2,500 per day when using such facilities when the national teams are in camp. We should be using that money for other things,' Lekan explained.

He said that the idea is for companies to purchase four balls and then BRU pays green fees at the golf course. The remaining money will go into the coffers of the union. Lekan said that the golf event on October 24 would be used as a networking session with businesspeople.

Other funds from the golf day will be used to sponsor the BRU's Tlamelong Centre. Lekan said that the centre, which is meant to develop rugby among orphaned children in Old Naledi is in need of resources. He said that the centre has been growing over the years and it recently hosted players from abroad.
