Botswana Fibre Networks (BOFiNet) is targeting clients from across the world and expects to sign international companies to its fold soon, Business Week has learnt.
BoFiNet Communications and Marketing Specialist Kungo Mabogo says they are targeting companies from South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and London.
'There are some international companies on our radar and we expect to make a signing very soon,' Mabogo said on the sidelines of BoFiNet, Mascom and 4Site Holdings contract signing.
She noted that BoFiNet has the capacity, speed and technology to compete in the global market.
BoFiNet signed in its first customer, Mascom, on Wednesday, 20 days after it launched.
The company also inked a deal with 4Site Holdings.
Mascom Wireless committed to work with BoFiNet for the next five years on a contract for the provision of international internet bandwidth worth P34 million, whilst 4site Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a 100 percent citizen-owned company, committed to two years of 5Mbps at the value of P400, 000.
Speaking at the contract signing, BoFiNet Chief Executive Officer Mabua Mabua said they aim to create a legacy of sustainability in the ICT sector. 'We aim to position Botswana amongst the best in Africa and the world,' he said.
She stated that Mascom could have opted to buy the internet bandwidth elsewhere, including outside the country, but chose BoFiNet.
'4Site also had the option of buying from somebody else but, thank you, you decided to have a relationship with us and we really value that,' he noted.
'We promise to provide service that is effective and efficient,' he said. He further assured clients of trustworthiness and transparency in their dealings.
He said it is their business to ensure that their products are of a high standard and are relevant to the current market and are of the expected speed and availability.
Mascom Chief Executive Officer Jose Couceiro said their partnership with BoFiNet will improve the service they offer their customers.
'With this agreement in place, we will be able to offer our customer improved surfing of the net,' he said.
4Site Managing Director Kagiso Mere applauded BoFiNet for making internet accessible to local communities, and acting as a medium to transport technology to Botswana.
