Gumpo wins Roscoe Bonna blitz title

Barileng Gaelafshwe of Mobile Chess Club was second while Moakofi Notha from Bonyonyo was third. Notha and Gaolashwe scored nine points each and had to be separated by a tiebreak. The two pocketed P800 and P700 respectively.

Providence Oatlhotse of Mobile was fourth with eight points, followed by Chadna Priyav in position five with seven points.

In the women competition, Fide Master (FM) Kgalalelo Botlhoe from Enpassent emerged tops with seven points and got the top prize of P1,000.Tuduetso Sabure from BDVC came second with 6.5 points, pocketing P600, while International Master (IM) Tshepiso Lopang of Mobile won P400 for finishing third with six points. Onkemetse Francis was fourth with five points followed by Boikhutso Mudongo who garnered the same number points. 

Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) spokesperson, Keenese Katisenge told Monitor Sport that the women section had nine rounds while the open had 11. She said that each player was allocated five minutes to finish his or her game. She said that many players favour speed chess. Roscoe Bonna Valuers sponsored the annual blitz tournament with P10,000.

In the youth category, Priyav was the champion followed by Sasitharen Abhiram of Mobile. Yaone Thekiso of Ledumang Senior Secondary School was third. Katisenge said the tournament attracted 49 players. The sponsor of the tournament donated chess sets and books to Tsogang Primary School in Broadhurst. Katisenge said BCF would drill pupils from the school in chess for one-year. She said the federation is committed to introducing chess in primary schools.
