Algerian club snatches volleyball ace

Chaba leaves today to begin her seven-month stint with the top Algerian side.  There is a possibility to renew the contract when it expires next May.

Algeria, with a world ranking of number 14, has reached the Olympic Games finals twice. Bejaia spotted the player in the Africa Club Championships in Madagascar early this year.  The 21-year-old Chaba joins teammate Tebogo Sejewe and Mafolofolo attacker, Dipolelo Chidzala in Algeria. Chaba promised to represent the country well on and off the field. 'For my volleyball life to be long I have to be well mannered,' she told Mmegi Sport.

She said she needs to be focused, committed and play her heart out in order to make it. She hopes to come back from Algeria a better player.

'I hope to come back a better person physically and mentally because Algeria has better facilities than us,' she said.  Her coach at Kutlwano, Isaac Samuel, said that because their players were able to attract international teams meant they were doing something right.

He said the knowledge that Chaba would acquire in Algeria would go a long way in helping grow local volleyball. Samuel observed that countries such as Algeria were better resourced. Chaba is undoubtedly one of the best players locally. She was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the best attacker during the 2012 Mascom League awards.
