The event, dubbed Botswana Challenge, is organised by Capital Ideas. It is expected to take place annually during the pre-season.

Amakhosi were invited after they won the ABSA Premiership title last season. Chiefs' spokesperson Clifford Mogomotsi said it was a great honour to be able to play against one of the best teams on the continent.

He said they would learn a lot from the likes of Kaizer Chiefs through such interactions. During their preparations for the CAF Champions League matches last season, Mochudi Chiefs travelled to South Africa where they played a couple of friendly matches against the Soweto giants at Naturena.

Although they lost two of those matches and drew one, Mogomotsi said they learnt a lot from that trip as far as professionalism was concerned. 'We had an experience of a lifetime,' he said.

Chiefs were eliminated in the second round of the competition by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side, TP Mazembe. Chiefs will take part again in the next edition following their league success last season. 'Our interaction with TP Mazembe was also a lesson because they run their club professionally,' Mogomotsi added.

Tickets for the match against Kaizer Chiefs will start selling today at different Puma Energy Service Stations. The VIP ticket costs P1,000, the grandstand costs P200 while the eastern stand, popularly known and panda will sell at P120. Tickets for other stands cost P100.  Botswana Premier League (BPL) chief executive officer Bennett Mamelodi said they were happy for their affiliates to be engaged in such initiatives.

He said interactions with such big brands could go a long way in driving local football to greater heights.

Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung said they were happy to be coming to Botswana for an encounter with one of the local giants. Kick-off is at 7pm.
