Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng, told affiliates during the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) that funds from government were insufficient, hence the need to revive SFT.

The fund, created in 2001, but has remained dormant but now efforts are underway to revive the programme.  As part of its effort to bring the trust to life BNSC has appointed former Botswana Defence Force (BDF) commander, Tebogo Masire, as its patron.

SFT is separate from the BNSC although it is its brainchild.

The BNSC has, meanwhile, set December 18 as the date for the induction of the first entrants of the Hall of Fame. Reikeletseng appealed to affiliates to continue submitting names of candidates for screening by the committee.

After screening the BNSC will then invite the public in the next level of screening. The Hall of Fame is meant to recognise yesteryear sports stars.
